MiiaLaakkonen
“Everything doesn't always go to plan — but one has to push through.”
Built Through Commitment
She didn't come from a shooting family. She didn't grow up at the range. Miia Laakkonen found shooting through the National Defence Training Association of Finland — and within two years of her first competition, she was a National Champion.
That is not a slow build. That is someone who found her sport and committed completely. Miia competes in Military 3-Gun, IPSC PCC, IPSC Pistol and Long Range — and she does it with the same honesty she brings to everything: sharing the wins and the struggles equally, lifting others around her, and pushing forward even when the plan falls apart.

From First Competition To National Champion
The Beginning
Miia's entry into shooting was not through family tradition or a childhood passion. It came through the National Defence Training Association of Finland — a structured, purposeful introduction to firearms that gave her both the foundation and the discipline the sport demands. From there, the path she chose was entirely her own.
Fast Progress
She began competing in Military 3-Gun in 2022 and added IPSC to her competition calendar in 2024. The progression was rapid. Within her first years of competition, she claimed her first National Championship medal in Military 3-Gun Ladies — the achievement she names as her most memorable to date. Not because it was the easiest. Because it was the first real proof that the work was producing results.
Still Learning
What makes Miia's story compelling is not just the results — it is the honesty with which she talks about the journey. Efficient movement under competition conditions remains her current challenge. She does not have a pre-match ritual yet. She is still figuring out what works for her. That transparency is deliberate and valued — she represents the sport as it actually is, not as a highlight reel.
Lifting Others
One of the values Miia stands for most clearly is lifting other athletes alongside her own progress. She is vocal about both her wins and her struggles online, because she believes that honesty is more useful to new shooters than a polished image. Her advice to anyone entering the sport is simple: ask questions and talk to people.
What It Takes
Curiosity. Persistence. And the willingness to keep pushing even when the plan does not survive contact with the stage.

What It Takes
“Aims to be better.”
Built For 3-Gun Transitions
Miia runs a dual optic setup built for the demands of Military 3-Gun — a discipline that requires fast transitions between distances and target types. Her primary platform is a .223 rifle with a 1-6x LPVO for precision work, paired with an offset red dot for close-range speed. That combination reflects exactly how she approaches the sport: methodical where precision matters, fast where speed is the advantage.
